Audun Aschim Steffensen: Mythos

Release date: September 3rd, 2019

“To initiate into the mysteries”

Audun Aschim Steffensen’s debut album depicts a mystical journey through a broad musical palette. “Mythos” introduces the young and talented guitarist together with a peculiar ensemble consisting of harpist Hanna Rabe and drummer Axel Skalstad. The trio ventures into an imaginative universe, inspired by mysterious sensations hidden in the apparent, pristine and lucent.

The trio envelops a multidimensional and unpredictable timbre, creating depth and rich textures. Simultaneously, the harp’s lyrical strings help create a simple, yet magical structure that provides safe guidance into the unknown.

Every composition depicts myths based on a character from Greek and Roman mythology. By following the journey through the album, the listener will get to know creatures like Harpy, Orpheus, Dionysus and Apollo. The spectrum includes the beautiful love-story of Orpheus and Eurydice, to the emergence of darkness from the mighty and dreaded goddess Nyx.

“Mythos” represents Nordic jazz, with sounds from modern French and German harp music, thematic ideas from avant-garde theatre and atmospheres inclination towards film music. The trio enters a musical landscape longing to be explored. Everything is communicated with a strong dramaturgical and mental image, along with influence from acoustic chamber music.

The album is available on Amazon, iTunes and other channels, in addition to physical CD and vinyl.
